THE THIN LINE-Bobby Harris has lost a lot. His leg to a
shark was one thing, but when he lost his pregnant wife at the hands of a
sick killer, he had to do something. As a Virginia Beach homicide
detective, Bobby quickly realized the NC officers were dragging their
feet. The time came to investigate on the sly. Bound and fueled by love
and anger, the young man leaves the beach, heading for the thin line.
The main thread is love and righting wrongs. This multifaceted story
takes you from Virginia Beach down the coast to Wilmington, NC and into
the middle of North Carolina.
Fast-paced, filled with various characters, and 'edge-of-your-seat' reading.
The sequel featuring Bobby Harris is "Dawn's Death" set in Virginia Beach.
_____

"DAWN'S DEATH"- Bobby Harris has suffered many losses in his life, such as the murder of his pregnant wife, the loss of his leg to a Great White, and now he loses Dawn. In this sequel to 'The Thin Line', Bobby teams up with his ex-partner from homicide to solve the mysterious death at Sandbridge Beach, Virginia. Prepare yourself for many colorful characters, twists and turns, and a surprise ending.
After Hurricane Betsey slams the coast, she deposits the water-logged
corpse of a local woman. Dawn is Bobby Harris' ex-girlfriend.
The
residents become worried, thinking there's a killer in their midst.
Ex-homicide detective Harris teams up with best friend, David Black,
still active on the Virginia Beach force, to find this killer.
It is recommended to read the first Bobby Harris novel 'The Thin Line' before this one. However, both are stand alone novels.

"JUSTICE IN HOLLOWELL COUNTY"- Set in rural NC and introduces Howie Higgins. Howie runs a small private investigation company in Virginia Beach. He returns to his birth home in Carolina for the funeral of a dear friend. Otis Foxworth is the man responsible for teaching Howie to hunt and silently walk the forests. These teachings saved Howie's life in Viet Nam. While home, Howie finds out from his Gran-dad how crooked and heavy-handed the county is being controlled by the Baddley family.
Howie stumbles upon evidence, leading him to suspect Otis was murdered and did not die of a heart attack. As he begins an undercover investigation, his Gran-dad suddenly dies from a heart attack. Howie calls on his ex-Army buddy, Tommy Dunagan, now employed with the CIA. Their investigation goes deeper into the illegal workings within the Baddley power ring. As their findings mount up, Howie learns of many more skeletons contained within the Hollowell closets, many of which have affected his entire family over the years. The thread continues to tighten. Justice finally comes to the Baddleys in a page-turning, heart-wrenching story with a gripping ending.

My next two novels fall into the General Fiction or 'Cross-over' genre. They are heart-warming, character-driven, and will touch your heart. I found writing these types of stories felt better than penning mystery/crime. Oh, 'Cross-over' means they appeal to Baby-Boomers and Teens. No bad language, sex, or violence, however, they do contain lessons to live by.

"IF BULLFROGS HAD WINGS" - is my first 'Cross-over' novel, Set in WV in 1957, it takes the reader to a time when family was family and friends were real friends. You will meet and love Keith DeLong and his best friend, John 'Flea' Summers, two teens growing up in a rugged coal mining town.
For a summer job they decide, instead of working around the mine as gophers, they want to work in the outdoors. They apply as caddies at the Bluefield Country Club, without their parents' knowledge. This move will not set well with Keith's coalmining father. While the boys work out a way to pull off the permission-slip caper, Flea is struck with a serious illness. Keith, the main character, is also hit with a wave of decisions and growing heartache in the midst of his dreams. Warned by his father about the uppity attitudes of the rich Bluefield folks, he finally allows Keith to caddy.
Keith's nemisis is, Eddie Brinkley, son of a wealthy lawyer, and the head caddy at Bluefield Country Club. The friction between them grows, but Keith refuses to allow this kid to ruin his caddy job, which would solidify his father's biased attitudes.
Keith caddies for an older man from Texas, a dairy farmer, who mentors him and realizes Keith is a 'natural' in the sport. With Chet Holloway's help, Keith works hard to excel in the game and assists in getting Flea back to normal, after he returns from the hospital. Even against Keith's father's headstrong opinions of the rich folks, Keith succeeds.
This story will pull you in and have you rooting for these two teens in their struggles to overcome. Have a tear-wipe handy. Oh, and then there's the sequel.
See what author Larry Webb says about "Bullfrogs"
"OUT OF THE ROUGH"-the sequel to 'Bullfrogs' moves ahead two years. Keith faces several 'major' obstacles, causing him to switch directions with his dreams. Flea continues to move forward, but is stunned with the tough decisions his friend must make. This novel encompasses more life changes for Keith than the previous one, but he eventually pulls through with the help of several people, one of which is Chet Holloway, the Texas dairy farmer. This story will grip you from the beginning and hold you close until the end. The 'overcoming' thread in this novel is stronger than steel and warmer than coal.
Lee crammed a lot into these two books--life lessons, priorities, working through adversity, and more. He emphasizes the fact that the words, "I" and "Me" are the two smallest words in the English lexicon. Words like family, friendship, love, devotion, and courage are among the largest.
Once you've convinced yourself that no more disasters could possibly happen, one does. I challenge any "normal" person to read through the two-book series and stay dry-eyed throughout. In the verbiage of the Flea, "It ain't gonna happen."
Looking forward to book three. That should tell me what happens to Chet, Flea, and Keith. I especially want to know if Keith and Arnie ever square off someday "...down the road."

"GABBY...ALL ABOUT ME"- this novel touches my heart more than any other. It's based on a real dog...a pooch my wife Kay rescued from a pound in Greensboro, NC, before I met her.
Now, I've used literary license in this heart-warming story of companionship, based on how we all perceive our pets to think and act. I wrote this novel in '08. It was reviewed on an excellent writing site I belonged to, and received rave reviews.
Anyway, the story is about a frustrated writer living on the beach (wonder who that could be?) who adopts Gabby. She becomes his muse, and has the ability to talk to him, thankfully no one else can hear her. This is a wonderful, humorous story, and was written while she laid beside my chair and slept and twitched, and every so often she would nuzzle my right elbow with her nose for a treat or to go out.
My heart breaks to tell you that, Gabby, shy of 15 by two months, passed away on August 1st of 2009. She's still my muse. Kay and I miss her more than words can express. I'm so thankful I wrote this story about her...she deserved every word and is my best-ever character...and will never be forgotten. This is a must read for all pet lovers.
_____
"PETS IN PARADISE" -My second pet novel came about after we had to put Gabby to sleep. I wanted to do something with this sad day...and I know many of you pet lovers have experienced the passing of a pet. So, this story takes us to their Paradise...all animals having a great time in a beautiful place. They still remember us and of course, we never forget them.
This is not a sad novel...no, it's uplifting and will cause you to recall all of your pets who have passed. I'll bet you'll find one or more with the personality of your pets. So, enjoy this story and your pets.
This novel is dedicated to the 'too-many' unwanted and abused animals.
